Effingham County Water Extension Project Advances in Coastal Georgia

September 7, 2026

The Effingham County Water Extension Project continues to expand critical utility infrastructure in one of Coastal Georgia's fastest-growing regions.

Working in collaboration with Legacy Water Group, Fortis Siteworks is self-performing horizontal boring operations as part of the system expansion. The work installs utility infrastructure beneath roadways and other obstacles while minimizing surface disruption.

Current operations in early September 2026 include a 240-foot, 54-inch auger bore near The Lakes at Greystone along Blue Jay Road in Rincon. The crossing is part of a broader utility expansion designed to support continued growth throughout the region.

The project highlights Fortis' growing trenchless construction capabilities and ability to support utility work across Georgia. While headquartered in the Lake Oconee region, Fortis crews regularly perform site development, utility, and boring work throughout the state, including major infrastructure projects in Coastal Georgia.

Using a Barbco 48/60-950 auger boring machine, Fortis can execute trenchless installations up to 72 inches in diameter to support water, sewer and stormwater infrastructure. Boring Division Manager Ron Smith is overseeing construction in Effingham County.
